RESUMO

The current noninvasive diagnostic approaches for detecting bladder cancer (BC) often exhibit limited clinical performance, especially for the initial diagnosis. This study aims to evaluate the validity of a streamlined urine-based PENK methylation test called EarlyTect BCD in detecting BC in patients with hematuria scheduled for cystoscopy in Korean and American populations. The test seamlessly integrates two steps, linear target enrichment and quantitative methylation-specific PCR within a single closed tube. The detection limitation of the test was approximately two genome copies of methylated PENK per milliliter of urine. In the retrospective training set (n = 105), an optimal cutoff value was determined to distinguish BC from non-BC, resulting in a sensitivity of 87.3% and a specificity of 95.2%. In the prospective validation set (n = 210, 122 Korean and 88 American patients), the overall sensitivity for detecting all stages of BC was 81.0%, with a specificity of 91.5% and an area under the curve value of 0.889. There was no significant difference between the two groups. The test achieved a sensitivity of 100% in detecting high-grade Ta and higher stages of BC. The negative predictive value of the test was 97.7%, and the positive predictive value was 51.5%. The findings of this study demonstrate that EarlyTect BCD is a highly effective noninvasive diagnostic tool for identifying BC among patients with hematuria.

RESUMO

The occurrence of an abdominal wall hematoma caused by abdominal paracentesis in patients with liver cirrhosis is rare. This paper presents a case of an abdominal wall hematoma caused by abdominal paracentesis in a 67-year-old woman with liver cirrhosis with a review of the relevant literature. Two days prior, the patient underwent abdominal paracentesis for symptom relief for refractory ascites at a local clinic. Upon admission, a physical examination revealed purpuric patches with swelling and mild tenderness in the left lower quadrant of the abdominal wall. Abdominal computed tomography revealed advanced liver cirrhosis with splenomegaly, tortuous dilatation of the para-umbilical vein, a large volume of ascites, and a large acute hematoma at the left lower quadrant of the abdominal wall. An external iliac artery angiogram showed the extravasation of contrast media from the left deep circumflex iliac artery. Embolization of the target arterial branches using N-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate was then performed, and the bleeding was stopped. The final diagnosis was an abdominal wall hematoma from the left deep circumflex iliac artery after abdominal paracentesis in a patient with liver cirrhosis.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND/AIM: Cytochrome P450 family 46 subfamily A member 1 (CYP46A1) has been implicated in the development and progression of various cancers. This study aimed to analyze the expression of CYP46A1, examining its relationship with oncogenic behaviors, and determining its prognostic implications in colorectal cancer (CRC). MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 225 patients with CRC who underwent curative surgical resection were examined using paraffin-embedded tissue blocks and subjected to tumor-specific survival analysis. The expression of CYP46A1 was assessed in CRC tissues through reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction, western blotting, and immunohistochemistry. The CRC cells' apoptosis, proliferation, angiogenesis, and lymphangiogenesis were analyzed using terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nick end labeling assays, alongside immunohistochemical staining for Ki-67, CD34, and D2-40 antibodies. RESULTS: CYP46A1 expression was found to be up-regulated in CRC tissues compared to normal colorectal mucosa. Such expression was significantly associated with advanced stage, deeper tumor invasion, lymph node metastasis, distant metastasis, and decreased survival. Furthermore, the mean Ki-67 labeling index and microvessel density values in CYP46A1-positive tumors were significantly elevated compared to CYP46A1-negative tumors. However, there was no discernible correlation between CYP46A1 expression and either the apoptotic index or lymphatic vessel density value. CONCLUSION: CYP46A1 promotes CRC progression, specifically through the induction of tumor cell proliferation and angiogenesis. The insights provided may hold potential implications for future therapeutic interventions targeting CYP46A1.

RESUMO

Bulk heterojunction polymer solar cells (PSCs) blended with non-fullerene-type acceptors (NFAs) possess good solar power conversion efficiency and compatibility with flexible electronics, rendering them good candidates for mobile photovoltaic applications. However, their internal absorption performance and mechanism are yet to be fully elucidated because of their complicated interference effect caused by their multilayer device structure. The transfer matrix method (TMM) is ideal for analyzing complex optical electric fields by considering multilayer interference effects. In this study, an active layer (AL) thickness-dependent TMM is used to obtain accurate information on the photon-capturing mechanisms of NFA-based PSCs for comparison with experimental results. Devices with AL thicknesses of 40-350 nm were prepared, and the AL-thickness-dependent device parameters with incident photon-to-current efficiency spectra were compared with the calculated internal absorption spectra of the TMM. The spectrally and spatially resolved spectra as a function of the AL thickness and excitation wavelength revealed that the power conversion efficiency of the NFA-blended PSC decreased with the increasing AL thickness after reaching a maximum of ~100 nm; by contrast, the internal absorption efficiency showed the opposite trend. Furthermore, the TMM spectra indicated that the spatial distribution of the photogenerated charge carriers became significantly imbalanced as the AL thickness increased, implying that the AL-dependent loss stemmed from the discrepancy between the absorption and the extracted charge carriers.

RESUMO

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) cells do not contain various receptors for targeted treatment, a reason behind the poor prognosis of this disease. In this study, biocompatible theranostic erythrocyte-derived nanoparticles (EDNs) were developed and evaluated for effective early diagnosis and treatment of TNBC. The anti-cancer drug, doxorubicin (DOX), was encapsulated into the EDNs and diagnostic quantum dots (QDs) were incorporated into the lipid bilayers of EDNs for tumor bio-imaging. Then, anti-epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) antibody molecules were conjugated to the surface of EDNs for TNBC targeting (iEDNs). According to the confocal microscopic analyses and biodistribution assay, iEDNs showed a higher accumulation in EGFR-positive MDA-MB-231 cancers in vitro as well as in vivo, compared to untargeted EDNs. iEDNs containing doxorubicin (iEDNs-DOX) showed a stronger inhibition of target tumor growth than untargeted ones. The resulting anti-EGFR iEDNs exhibited strong biocompatibility, prolonged blood circulation, and efficient targeting of TNBC in mice. Therefore, iEDNs may be used as potential TNBC-targeted co-delivery systems for therapeutics and diagnostics.

RESUMO

Efforts to improve the solar power conversion efficiencies of binary bulk heterojunction-type organic photovoltaic devices using an active layer consisting of a poly-(3-alkylthiophene) (P3AT) homopolymer and a suitable fullerene derivative face barriers caused by the intrinsic properties of homopolymers. To overcome such barriers, researchers might be able to chemically tailor homopolymers by means of monomer ratio-balanced block copolymerization to obtain preferable properties. Triblock copolymers consisting of three components-3-hexylthiophene (HT), 3-butylthiophene (BT), and 3-octylthiophene (OT)-were synthesized via Grignard metathesis (GRIM) polymerization. The component ratios of the synthesized block copolymers were virtually the same as the feeding ratios of the monomers, a fact which was verified using 1H-NMR spectra. All the copolymers exhibited comparable crystalline and melting temperatures, which increased when one type of monomer became dominant. In addition, their power conversion efficiencies and photoluminescence properties were governed by the major components of the copolymers. Interestingly, the HT component-dominated block copolymer indicated the highest power conversion efficiency, comparable to that of its homopolymer, although its molecular weight was significantly shorter.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND/AIM: Pelvic radiation therapy (RT) is a common treatment for malignancies, including gynecological, genitourinary, and lower gastrointestinal tract cancers. However, chronic radiation proctitis (RP) is an unavoidable side effect, and its clinical presentation varies from asymptomatic to potentially life-threatening. This study evaluated the clinical characteristics and risk factors of chronic RP. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Patients with chronic RP (212) following RT for various pelvic cancers between January 2015 and December 2021 were enrolled. Clinical characteristics of RP were analyzed retrospectively. Severity was graded according to the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG) modified rectal toxicity score and Vienna rectoscopy score (VRS), and risk factors were statistically analyzed. RESULTS: The most common pelvic cancer observed was cervical cancer. The patients received three-dimensional conformal RT (3D-CRT), intensity-modulated RT, or a combination of 3D-CRT and intracavitary RT (ICR). Rectal bleeding occurred in 70 (33.0%) patients. Previous abdominopelvic surgery and total radiation dose significantly correlated with the RTOG score and VRS. Previous abdominopelvic surgery, ICR, and total radiation dose were associated with chronic hemorrhagic RP. All patients with chronic hemorrhagic RP were treated with argon plasma coagulation (APC). 91.4% of cases required 1-3 APC sessions to resolve the bleeding, with a mean of 1.7 sessions. CONCLUSION: Our results showed that previous abdominopelvic surgery and total radiation dose were significant risk factors related to chronic RP, while total radiation dose was related to chronic hemorrhagic RP. We also showed that APC was effective and safe for chronic hemorrhagic RP.

RESUMO

CD47 is an immunoregulatory protein that is found on the cell surface and plays significant roles in cellular functions such as proliferation, apoptosis, migration, and immune homeostasis. CD47 is overexpressed in various human cancers and is associated with tumor development, progression, and poor prognosis. In this study, we analyzed the expression of CD47 to determine whether it affected the oncogenic behavior of colorectal cancer (CRC) and investigated the prognostic value of CD47 expression in patients with CRC. We investigated 468 patients with CRC who underwent curative surgery and examined the expression of CD47 in tumor and lymph node tissues by performing RT-PCR and immunohistochemistry. Apoptosis, proliferation, angiogenesis, and lymphangiogenesis were determined via a TUNEL assay and immunohistochemical staining for Ki-67, CD34, and D2-40. CD47 expression was increased in human CRC tumors and metastatic lymph nodes compared with normal colorectal mucosa and non-metastatic lymph node tissues. CD47 expression was significantly associated with perineural invasion, lymphovascular invasion, cell differentiation, cancer stage, depth of invasion, lymph node metastasis, distant metastasis, and poor survival. The mean apoptotic index and microvessel density value of CD47-positive tumors were significantly higher than those of CD47-negative tumors. However, no significant difference was observed between CD47 expression and Ki-67 labeling index or lymphatic vessel density. These results indicate that CD47 mediated the progression of CRC by inducing tumor cell apoptosis and angiogenesis.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND/AIM: Engulfment and cell motility 1 (ELMO1) plays a crucial role in the process of migration, chemotaxis, and metastasis of tumor cells. ELMO1 has been implicated in the pathogenesis of various cancers. However, the distinct function of ELMO1 in colorectal cancer (CRC) is unclear. We determined whether ELMO1 affects the oncogenic behavior of CRC cells and investigated its prognostic value in CRC patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We investigated the impact of ELMO1 on tumor cell behavior using small interference RNA (siRNA) in CRC cell lines, including SW480 and DLD1. The expression of ELMO1 was investigated by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), immunohistochemistry, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) in cancer tissues and sera obtained from CRC patients. RESULTS: ELMO1 knockdown suppressed tumor cell proliferation in SW480 and DLD1 cells. ELMO1 knockdown-induced apoptosis through up-regulation of caspase-3, -7, and PARP activities and down-regulation of the anti-apoptotic Mcl-1 protein. ELMO1 knockdown-induced cell-cycle arrest by decreasing cyclin D1, cyclin-dependent kinase 2, 4 and 6, and the 25C cell division cycle (CDC25C). ELMO1 knockdown suppressed tumor cell invasion and migration. The expression of E-cadherin was increased, while that of Vimentin and Claudin 1 decreased following ELMO1 knockdown. The phosphorylation levels of PDK1, Akt, and GSK-3ß and were down-regulated after ELMO1 knockdown. The expression of ELMO1 was found up-regulated in cancer tissues and sera taken from CRC patients. ELMO1 expression was significantly associated with tumor stage, lymph node metastasis, distant metastases, and poor survival. CONCLUSION: ELMO1 mediates tumor progression by increasing tumor cell motility and inhibiting apoptosis in human CRC.

RESUMO

Introduction: Avoiding phagocytic cells and reducing off-target toxicity are the primary hurdles in the clinical application of nanoparticles containing therapeutics. For overcoming these errors, in this study, nanoparticles expressing CD47 proteins inhibiting the phagocytic attack of immune cells were prepared and then evaluated as an anti-cancer drug delivery vehicle. Methods: The CD47+ cell-derived nanoparticles (CDNs) were prepared from the plasma membranes of human embryonic kidney cells transfected with a plasmid encoding CD47. And the doxorubicin (DOX) was loaded into the CDNs, and anti-EGF receptor (EGFR) antibodies were conjugated to the surface of the CDNs to target tumors overexpressing EGFR. Results: The CD47+iCDNs-DOX was successfully synthesized having a stable structure. The CD47+CDNs were taken up less by RAW264.7 macrophages compared to control CDNs. Anti-EGFR CD47+CDNs (iCDNs) selectively recognized EGFR-positive MDA-MB-231 cells in vitro and accumulated more effectively in the target tumor xenografts in mice. Moreover, iCDNs encapsulating doxorubicin (iCDNs-DOX) exhibited the highest suppression of tumor growth in mice, presumably due to the enhanced DOX delivery to tumor tissues, compared to non-targeting CDNs or CD47- iCDNs. Discussion: These results suggest that the clinical application of biocompatible cell membrane-derived nanocarriers could be facilitated by functionalization with macrophage-avoiding CD47 and tumor-targeting antibodies.

RESUMO

Primary esophageal melanoma is a rare disease with a poor prognosis. To date, 18 cases have been reported in Korea. Four patients visited the Chonnam National University Hwasun Hospital with dysphagia, followed by epigastric pain and discomfort, odynophagia, and weight loss. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy revealed a black pigmented polypoid mass, protruding mass, or black-pigmented flat lesions. Two patients had distant metastases and lymphadenopathies in imaging studies. Two patients underwent esophagectomy and intrathoracic esophagogastrostomy. One patient was treated with chemotherapy and interferon-alpha. The other patient declined further treatment. The routine histology using H&E revealed brown-colored atypical melanocytes. Immunohistochemical staining exhibited strong reactivity for Melan-A, S-100, and HMB-45 proteins. The biopsy specimens were interpreted to be malignant melanoma. One patient had multiple distant metastases 13 months after surgery. The other patient had no recurrence for 33 months after surgery. The patient treated with chemotherapy and interferon-alpha showed disease progression in the follow-up examination. Primary esophageal melanoma in Korea is a rare disease characterized by aggressive behavior, early metastasis, and poor prognosis.

RESUMO

In this paper, to improve the slow processing speed of the rule-based visible and NIR (near-infrared) image synthesis method, we present a fast image fusion method using DenseFuse, one of the CNN (convolutional neural network)-based image synthesis methods. The proposed method applies a raster scan algorithm to secure visible and NIR datasets for effective learning and presents a dataset classification method using luminance and variance. Additionally, in this paper, a method for synthesizing a feature map in a fusion layer is presented and compared with the method for synthesizing a feature map in other fusion layers. The proposed method learns the superior image quality of the rule-based image synthesis method and shows a clear synthesized image with better visibility than other existing learning-based image synthesis methods. Compared with the rule-based image synthesis method used as the target image, the proposed method has an advantage in processing speed by reducing the processing time to three times or more.

RESUMO

RATIONALE: Syphilis is a contagious infectious disease caused by Treponema pallidum. Gastric involvement of syphilis is rare and has nonspecific gastrointestinal symptoms and endoscopic findings. To date, 16 cases have been reported in Korea. Here, we report 2 additional cases of gastric syphilis in men in their 30 second. PATIENTS CONCERNS: Two 35- and 33-year-old men presented with epigastric pain. DIAGNOSIS: The serum venereal disease research laboratory and fluorescent treponemal antibody absorption tests were positive. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy showed multiple variable-sized flat elevated lesions and geographic ulcers with whitish exudates in the antrum and body. Warthin-Starry silver staining of endoscopic biopsy specimens confirmed gastric syphilis. INTERVENTIONS: The patients were treated with an intramuscular injection of 2.4 million units of benzathine penicillin once a week for 3 weeks. OUTCOMES: Clinical symptoms and gastric lesions were completely resolved. LESSONS: First, gastric syphilis, despite its rarity and nonspecific symptoms and endoscopic findings, should be considered in a rare extracutaneous presentation of syphilis. Second, a high index of clinical suspicion and an accurate diagnosis based on a combination of clinical, radiological, endoscopic, serologic, and histopathologic findings provide an opportunity to identify and treat patients with gastric syphilis.

RESUMO

A series of poly-3-alkylthiophenes (P3ATs) with butyl (P3BT), hexyl (P3HT), and octyl (P3OT) side-chains and well-defined molecular weights (MWs) were synthesized using Grignard metathesis polymerization. The MWs of P3HTs and P3OTs obtained via gel permeation chromatography agreed well with the calculated MWs ranging from approximately 10 to 70 kDa. Differential scanning calorimetry results showed that the crystalline melting temperature increased with increasing MWs and decreasing alkyl side-chain length, whereas the crystallinity of the P3ATs increased with the growth of MWs. An MW-dependent red shift was observed in the UV-Vis and photoluminiscence spectra of the P3ATs in solution, which might be a strong evidence for the extended effective conjugation occurring in polymers with longer chain lengths. The photoluminescence quantum yields of pristine films in all polymers were lower than those of the diluted solutions, whereas they were higher than those of the phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester-blended films. The UV-Vis spectra of the films showed fine structures with pronounced red shifts, and the interchain interaction-induced features were weakly dependent on the MW but significantly dependent on the alkyl side-chain length. The photovoltaic device performances of the P3BT and P3HT samples significantly improved upon blending with a fullerene derivative and subsequent annealing, whereas those of P3OTs mostly degraded, particularly after annealing. The optimal power conversion efficiencies of P3BT, P3HT, and P3OT were 2.4%, 3.6%, and 1.5%, respectively, after annealing with MWs of ~11, ~39, and ~38 kDa, respectively.

RESUMO

Non-fullerene type acceptors (NFA) have gained attention owing to their spectral extension that enables efficient solar energy capturing. For instance, the solely NFA-mediated absorbing region contributes to the photovoltaic power conversion efficiency (PCE) as high as ~30%, in the case of the solar cells comprised of fluorinated materials, PBDB-T-2F and ITIC-4F. This implies that NFAs must be able to serve as electron donors, even though they are conventionally assigned as electron acceptors. Therefore, the pathways of NFA-originated excitons need to be explored by the spectrally resolved photovoltaic characters. Additionally, excitation wavelength dependent transient absorption spectroscopy (TAS) was performed to trace the nature of the NFA-originated excitons and polymeric donor-originated excitons separately. Unique origin-dependent decay behaviors of the blend system were found by successive comparing of those solutions and pristine films which showed a dramatic change upon film formation. With the obtained experimental results, including TAS, a possible model describing origin-dependent decay pathways was suggested in the framework of reaction kinetics. Finally, numerical simulations based on the suggested model were performed to verify the feasibility, achieving reasonable correlation with experimental observables. The results should provide deeper insights in to renewable energy strategies by using novel material classes that are compatible with flexible electronics.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: To evaluate visual performance after bilateral implantation of an extended depth of focus (EDOF) intraocular lens (IOL). METHODS: This multicenter, prospective, observational study included 100 patients who underwent bilateral cataract surgery with a toric or non-toric EDOF IOL (Tecnis Symfony), and 96 patients completed the final assessment at 4 to 6 months. Binocular corrected distance visual acuity and uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA), uncorrected intermediate visual acuity (UIVA), and uncorrected near visual acuity (UNVA), spectacle independence, visual symptoms, and patient satisfaction were evaluated. RESULTS: Mean decimal visual acuity results showed a binocular corrected distance visual acuity of 1.10 ± 0.18, UDVA of 1.04 ± 0.17, UIVA of 0.96 ± 0.16, and UNVA of 0.68 ± 0.18. Binocular UDVA and UIVA were 0.8 (decimal) or better in 98% and 94% of patients, respectively. Binocular UNVA was 0.63 (decimal) or better in 76% of patients. Overall, 76% of the patients achieved spectacle independence across all distances, and more than 85% reported no or mild dysphotoptic phenomena. On a scale of 0 to 10, the median patient satisfaction score was 9 for far, 9.5 for intermediate, and 8 for near vision. CONCLUSIONS: The Symfony EDOF IOL provided excellent distance, intermediate visual outcome, and functional near visual acuity. The visual results were associated with prominent levels of spectacle independence and patient satisfaction.

RESUMO

In spite of the impressive progresses regarding perovskite-type solar cells, a clear understanding about underlying mechanisms therein is still sparse, especially because of the absence of spatially resolved device characteristics which should be linked to exciton formation efficiency, morphology, and crystallinity being estimated as functions of positions within active layers. Here, the planar CH3NH3PbI3 (MAPbI3) perovskite solar cells (PeSCs) with ZnO as the electron-transporting layer (ETL) were fabricated. By varying the wide range of MAPbI3 active-layer thickness, we estimate their device parameters and external quantum efficiencies in addition to internal absorption spectra (Q) by means of the transfer matrix method. Furthermore, the spectrally and spatially resolved internal quantum efficiencies (IQEs) as a function of the active-layer thickness within PeSCs were calculated, and the relationship between IQE and device parameters extracted from the current-voltage ( J- V) behaviors was discussed. It was found that the PeSC with MAPbI3 film thickness around 303 nm has a relatively high IQE and PCE, indicating that there is more power loss of PeSCs when the thickness of the MAPbI3 layer is either less or more than about 300 nm. Furthermore, time-resolved photoluminescence together with the thickness-dependent morphology and crystallinity of the MAPbI3 film demonstrate that there are two power loss processes in the fabricated PeSCs: one at the ZnO/MAPbI3 interface and the other in bulk. The present research is beneficial for further understanding of the fundamental physics for the PeSCs based on the ZnO ETL.

RESUMO

Many aptamers have been evaluated for their ability as drug delivery vehicles to target ligands, and a variety of small interfering RNAs (siRNAs) have been tested for their anti-cancer properties. However, since these two types of molecules have similar physicochemical properties, it has so far been difficult to formulate siRNA-encapsulating carriers guided by aptamers. Here, we propose aptamer-coupled lipid nanocarriers encapsulating quantum dots (QDs) and siRNAs for theragnosis of triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). Methods: Hydrophobic QDs were effectively incorporated into lipid bilayers, and then therapeutic siRNAs were complexed with QD-lipid nanocarriers (QLs). Finally, anti-EGFR aptamer-lipid conjugates were inserted into the QLs for TNBC targeting (aptamo-QLs). TNBC-targeting aptamo-QLs were directly compared to anti-EGFR antibody-coupled immuno-QLs. The in vitro delivery of therapeutic siRNAs and QDs to target cells was assessed by flow cytometry and confocal microscopy. The in vivo targeting of siRNAs to tumors and their therapeutic efficacy were evaluated in mice carrying MDA-MB-231 tumors. Results: Both types of EGFR-targeting QLs showed enhanced delivery to target cancer cells, resulting in more effective gene silencing and enhanced tumor imaging compared to non-targeting control QLs. Moreover, combinatorial therapy with Bcl-2 and PKC-ι siRNAs loaded into the anti-EGFR QLs was remarkably effective in inhibiting tumor growth and metastasis. Conclusion: In general, the aptamo-QLs showed competitive in vivo delivery and therapeutic efficacy compared to immuno-QLs under the same experimental conditions. Our results show that the anti-EGFR aptamer-guided lipid carriers may be a potential theranostic delivery vehicle for RNA interference and fluorescence imaging of TNBCs.

RESUMO

Cancer theranosis is an emerging field of personalized medicine which enables individual anti-cancer treatment by monitoring the therapeutic responses of cancer patients. Based on a consideration of the nano-bio interactions related to the blood circulation of systemically administered nanoparticles in humans, as well as extravasation and active targeting, lipid micellar nanoparticles were co-loaded with paclitaxel (PTX) and quantum dots (QDs) to generate a theranostic delivery vehicle. To provide with a tumor-targeting capability, either an antibody or an aptamer against the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) was conjugated to the micelle surface. The QD-containing micelles (QDMs), antibody-coupled QDMs (immuno-QDMs), and aptamer-coupled QDMs (aptamo-QDMs) were able to effectively circulate in blood for at least 8 h when administered intravenously into mice bearing EGFR-positive LS174T tumor xenografts. In vivo fluorescence imaging and a bio-distribution study showed that both the immuno-QDMs and aptamo-QDMs were largely localized in the tumor tissue. The tumor targeting capability enhanced the therapeutic efficacy of PTX for the target cancer cells. Both the immuno-PTX-QDMs and the aptamo-PTX-QDMs caused a stronger inhibition of LS174T tumor growth in mice, compared to the non-targeted PTX-QDMs. These results suggest that the anti-EGFR immuno-PTX-QDMs and anti-EGFR aptamo-PTX-QDMs could be utilized as a tumor-targeted theranostic delivery system for cancer treatment in the clinic.
